The company are an investment research and investment management firm head-quartered in Chicago. Their London based office is a Real-Time Data firm, the team delivers financial market data for millions of instruments traded in markets worldwide, representing a full range of asset classes. They supply this data both internally to the company’s products and externally to clients, supporting the need for fast, reliable market information in a variety of formats and time intervals. The environment is fast-paced and lively!
As an Development Operations Engineer, you will work a 24/7 12 hour shift rota in a team until your training is completed after which it will be a Follow The Sun model being responsible for their central real-time data systems 24 hours a day which are based in data centres around the globe. You will be responsible for pro-actively monitoring all servers (Windows), application software (usually bespoke), databases, feeds and network connections, detecting faults/issues and fixing them. Bash Scripting – Python and Splunk is desirable.
·Providing excellent pro-active, real-time monitoring of hardware, application software and network connections, detecting any issues and making sure they are fixed or escalated to senior management.
·Performing scheduled checks to ensure correct system performance.
·Provide excellent customer service by responding to and efficiently resolving client/service desk issues and requests, working closely with Client Help Desk Support team.
·Working with Development teams to assist in testing and deployment of new software/updates.
·Liaising with data suppliers (such as Stock Exchanges) and network/circuit suppliers to troubleshoot issues.
·Diagnosing and correcting errors for example in data integrity or application configuration.
·Working with SysAdmin teams on project work such as setting up/migrating to new systems.
·Managing new data downloads, backups, ensuring data accuracy & completeness, and creating and updating documentation.
·Focus on automation: this includes partnering with Engineering team to automate deployment and configuration management, quality (including functional and capacity testing), and reaction to problems.
·Contribute to the training of new operations engineers and continued support and training for more experienced engineers.
·Incident management, tracking issues from discovery to resolution and next steps.
·undertake such duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
You will need to hold a Bachelor’s Degree or similar in a technical discipline with strong academic credentials and/or previous experience working within the IT industry (technical certifications desirable- CNNA/CCNP). You will possess the ability to work in a demanding fast paced environment and learn quickly. A Broad overall understanding of networking communications and technologies is also key. As an individual you will be a pro-active, adaptable and creative engineer able to work from their own initiative. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital and necessary to work with colleagues and clients. Any experience with monitoring systems, application/database support, automation/shell scripting or development would be beneficial. Any experience in the financial services industry is also a plus.
Python, Bash Scripting, Splunk or interest in Market Data (Trading Floor) is a bonus.
